About Us

This initiative is coordinated by a dedicated volunteer team bringing experience and expertise in various cross-cultural and policy-oriented activities. A key on-the-ground organising partner is the Institute for Rural Development (IRD), a voluntary non-profit in Nepal focused on sustainable development, community engagement, and rural policy. The programme is conducted with the close guidance and support of the Britain Nepal Society, ensuring meaningful access and local insight, and allowing delegates to engage with both the realities of urban diplomacy and rural development.

Why Us?

We invite you to experience a country that is a living classroom for the themes that define our world today. Yes, Nepal has eight of the world's fourteen highest peaks, a fact that speaks to its grand physical scale. But its true majesty lies in its unique position at the crossroads of ideas.

Here, ancient spirituality, where Lord Buddha was born in Lumbini, meets modern economic ambition. It is a strategically neutral nation, actively navigating its place between regional powers, making it a compelling case study in contemporary diplomacy. Beyond the halls of government in Kathmandu, a vibrant spirit of entrepreneurship is taking root, offering fresh perspectives on sustainable development, technology, and social innovation.

We have designed this trip for those who see travel as an opportunity for deeper understanding and connection. Nepal, with its profound heritage and forward-looking energy, is the perfect place to engage with leaders, thinkers, and communities. This is a chance to explore how policy, culture, and enterprise intertwine, and to build the relationships that turn insight into impact.

Timing is Everything

April is one of the best times to visit Nepal. The weather is clear and warm, the skies offer perfect mountain views, and the famous rhododendrons are in bloom—ideal for our planned day trips and outdoor activities.

We have also strategically chosen this timeframe to follow Nepal's national elections in early March 2026. This allows us to engage during the optimal travel season while gaining unique insight into a newly mandated political landscape, where fresh economic and social development agendas are taking shape.

What to Expect: Building on Last Year

Last year's group had an incredible time. Their schedule included meetings with MPs and government officials, a roundtable at the EU Delegation, a reception at the British Embassy, and visits to places like a rural municipality and the British Gurkhas. They also had briefings with UN agencies, the SAARC Secretariat, and international think tanks like ICIMOD and IIDS, balanced with a cultural trek and tours of a few UNESCO World Heritage sites. What's New for 2026?

This year's programme marks a thematic evolution from pure exploration to focused engagement. While the 2025 trip provided a broad introduction to Nepal's political and cultural landscape, the 2026 trip will adopt economic and social development as its central theme.

We are concentrating our itinerary on a more in-depth exploration of the Kathmandu region. This focused approach allows us to delve deeper into the engines of Nepal's growth: investment climate, social entrepreneurship, sustainable tourism, and development policy. We will still venture into surrounding valleys for community engagement, but with a lens on grassroots economic models and rural innovation.

This concentration enables richer dialogue, more targeted meetings with business leaders and development agencies, and a cohesive narrative that connects high-level diplomacy directly to on-the-ground economic realities and opportunities. New for 2026, we have also secured engagements with the U.S. Embassy Nepal and expanded our alumni networking dinner to include Oxford, Cambridge, and LSE graduates based in Kathmandu.
